It occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients is either blocked by a clot or ruptures. When this happens, part of the brain is deprived of oxygen, and brain cells begin to die quickly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">That\u2019s why timing matters so much. <b>On average, 1.9 million brain cells die every minute a stroke goes untreated. <\/b>Immediate medical care can reduce long-term disability and may even save a life. The good news is that advances in treatment over the past decade have significantly improved survival rates\u2014but only if care is received quickly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Stroke can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. Knowing what to look for and acting fast can make all the difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong>Did You Know? Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p2\"><b>Know the Signs: Think <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">B.E. F.A.S.T.<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p2\">An easy way to recognize stroke symptoms is by remembering B.E. F.A.S.T. <b>Seek immediate medical attention by calling 911 if these warning signs of stroke are present:<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Calling 911 ensures that first responders can begin treatment right away\u2014even before reaching the hospital\u2014giving the person the best chance for recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">B<\/span>alance Loss: <\/b><\/span>Sudden trouble with balance, coordination, or dizziness.<b><\/b><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">E<\/span>ye Changes:<\/strong> Blurred, double, or sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">F<\/span>ace Drooping:<\/strong> One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Ask the person to smile\u2014does it look uneven?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">A<\/span>rm Weakness:<\/strong> One arm may feel weak or numb. Ask the person to raise both arms\u2014does one drift downwards?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">S<\/span>peech Difficulty:<\/strong> Slurred or hard-to-understand speech. Ask them to repeat a simple sentence.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">T<\/span>ime to Call 911:<\/strong> If you notice any of these signs, call 911 immediately. Do not wait.<\/p>\n<h4>Additional Symptoms to Watch For<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Other warning signs can appear suddenly, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">Numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg (especially on one side of the body)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Confusion or trouble understanding speech<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\">A severe headache with no known cause<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Stroke Symptoms in Women<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">While men and women often experience similar symptoms, women may also have more subtle signs that are easier to overlook. These can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General weakness<\/li>\n<li>Confusion, disorientation, and memory problems<\/li>\n<li>Fatigue, nausea, or vomiting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A stroke is always an emergency. Recognizing the signs and acting quickly can save brain function, reduce disability, and protect lives. If you suspect a stroke, even if you\u2019re not sure, don\u2019t wait.
